Sweet Baby Boy
Posted by heatherjonesphotography in Oregon Photographer on March 27, 2012
I wanted to share just a few photo’s from a really sweet baby session I had last weekend. This little guy is Noah and he was born 4 weeks early. When I took these photo’s he was a month old and his “due date” was the day before. This tiny guy had such a personality and was so alert. He was such a pleasure to shoot and I look forward to seeing him grow and getting more photo’s of him when he’s gotten bigger.

At this time last week I was in the car with Kelsey and Diane on our way to Sisters Oregon for the Queen Clinic. Sisters is about 3 hours SE of Hillsboro in central Oregon. It was a beautiful drive past Detroit Lake and up over the mountains which were covered in thick snow. A stop at the top to make a bathroom break showed the 2 1/2 to 3 feet on top of the building. It was really amazing since we’ve had such a mild winter.
We pulled thru the small town and then straight to the Sisters Fairgrounds where the clinic would be held. We unloaded the boxes of decorations Diane had brought with us and got the beautiful room decorated with red and yellow handkerchiefs and cute little ceramic boots. After we finished setting up the room it was off to Kelsey’s to get the car unloaded and get cleaned up for dinner.
Dinner was really pleasant, we meet up with some of the other MRO Board members as well as the guest speaker and her husband. Everyone was so nice and it was an evening full of fun stories and really delicious food. I had a wonderful Parmesan crusted halibut with a lemon caper sauce. Yummy!
Saturday came early as I didn’t sleep very well being somewhere new. We all got dressed and ready and headed back to the fairgrounds. Diane and I escaped the first part of clinic to make a run for coffee’s and the view of the 3 sisters mountains were just breath taking. It was picture perfect as geese flew over.
We got back to clinic just after the photogenic’s section which I was bummed that we missed. The rest of the day was filled with all sorts of great info about how to conduct yourself, giving speeches, interviews, hair, and makeup. It was really fun and after the makeup section there was a short 5 minute break but it was perfect time to grab the 2012 Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon Kayla Vincent and get a few photo’s. She was the makeup model so she was all dolled up.
After clinic we all headed back home to get dressed up for the coronation celebration for 2012 Miss Rodeo Oregon Shelby Ross. It was a packed room full of friends and rodeo queens all coming together to celebrate and see the beautiful Shelby get crowned Miss Rodeo Oregon. The live auction was really fun as well as the dessert dash. The night was really beautiful and I was so happy I could be there.
Sunday started a little later and I slept much better, woke to the sun shining and the birds singing. We headed out to get coffee and on the drive into town we saw many deer which I just love. I love nature, and it makes me so happy to be around it.
Clinic sunday was all about Horsemanship. Horsemanship was planned for the arena but with the late snow this year the ground was too frozen and muddy to bring the horses out so all the riding was done on stick horses. The girls were real troopers and did a wonderful job trotting around the room in the riding formations.
Before heading back to the house Kelsey said she knew a spot where you could see all the mountains so we headed there to get some photos. It was so sunny and warm it was crazy that we could still see some snow on the ground.
We packed up the car and picked up some really yummy pizza on our way out of town. It was a fabulous weekend and it was so nice to have a little getaway. Thanks Kelsey for doing all the driving and for letting us stay at your beautiful place.
Excuses
Posted by heatherjonesphotography in Oregon Photographer, Personal on February 29, 2012
Why is it that I can find excuses to not do what I love. I want to be out doing photography, I would love to build my business, and love to make money doing that! I’m sure others have the same excuses : my youngest isn’t in school yet, my hubby works 12 hour days 4 days a week, at the moment we only have one car, I don’t have a studio space, or any room in this tiny house, and biggest excuse I have is that I don’t have the confidence I used to have.
I haven’t lost my passion for photography and the passion needed to make it work somehow. These excuses are just problems I will have to find solutions for because this is a dream I won’t give up on!

This is going to be an amazing event! If you want to take your business to the next level and start making your goals come to life this would be a perfect first step! Katie is a friend of mine that I was lucky enough to find on a photography forum. I was so inspired by her images and the way she was building her business, I was in awe of how she handled being a mom and photographer This is still where I have the hardest balancing act. . She is a wealth of knowledge and super down to earth. I missed her workshops last year so I’m really excited that she’s brought this workshop to Portland. I just wanted to encourage any of the local or non local photographers that may check my blog to know about this! It’s going to awesome!! I hope you guys can make it out!

Here’s a little more information on the Dream Pro Creative Retreats:
Dream. pro: $495
The DREAM pro retreat is what so many people are truly looking for in a professional photography workshop! We’ll skip over the “how’s” of setting up your business because that’s a really personal decision (in my honest opinion). We’re going to dive into the core of your business. How to get clients, how to get known in your area and stay busy, how to interact with your clients, what you can do for marketing, PRICING, social media and networking, workflow, and of course some actual live shooting to help build a portfolio. You will leave with images for you to personally use to market your business that YOU have created. We’ll have models there from different genres and you’ll walk away with a plan for your business, your pricing well thought out, resource guides, help guides from the workshop so you don’t forget all the information overload you’ll get, some special gifts from our sponsors, and inspiration to move forward with your business plans. Another important thing you’ll walk away with is some relationships with other fellow photographers!

I’m starting off this year with a photo of me and my West Tucker and just saying that if this is a show of what kind of year I have ahead then I’m 100% in! 2011 was pretty darn awesome and I hope to make this one even better. I hope everyone out there has a year to remember, I can’t wait to see where it will take us all.
Jr. & Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon Pageant
Posted by heatherjonesphotography in Headshots, Jr Miss Rodeo Oregon, Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon, Oregon Photographer, Portraits, Rodeo Pageants on June 28, 2011
I just got home from Tillamook Oregon and from a very full weekend of Pageant events. This is the second year I’ve been asked to photograph the Jr and Miss Rodeo Oregon Pageant. I had such a great time meeting the contestants and seeing the the current title holders as well as meeting the traveling royality who were there to show thier support. The rodeo pageant is a really amazing community of strong and confident individuals who come together to celebrate in the rodeo and the rodeo traditions. They have a love for thier horses and the sportmanship as well as a passion for educating others about everything the rodeo stands for. You see friendships build and grow and I’m so thankful that I’ve had the chance to be a part of it again this year.
I can’t wait to share a few photo’s of the girls
Here are the current title holders and the contestants. I had a few minutes with each girl after they had completed thier interviews.
This is Jr Miss Rodeo Oregon 2011 Haley Marie Jones & Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon 2011 Kiernan Hull You can learn more about each of these ladies on the official Miss Rodeo Oregon website.

This is Newly Crowned Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon 2012 Kayla Vincent
This is Claire Logue who placed 1st Runner up in the Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon 2012 Pageant
This is Adora Brockman who placed 2nd Runner up for Miss Teen Rodeo Oregon 2012
This is Ashley Nicole Ferch Jr Miss Rodeo Oregon 2012
The weekend included Horsemanship, Interviews, a field trip to the Tillamook Cheese Factory, Speech’s and Fashion as well as showing in the Tillamook Parade on Saturday morning, and these ladies rocked it thru out the weekend. They also were perfect role models for the littlest Pageant contestants which they call Sweethearts Pageant. These six little girls who ranged in ages from 5 to 9 looked like mini rodeo queens and had attitudes to match! They were just too cute!
Overall it was an outstanding weekend and I would encourage anyone who can to come out and enjoy the rodeo’s in your area this summer, it’s great family fun with friendly folks.

I had an awesome weekend up at the mountain and had the best time photographing all the racers. They have such great spirit and I’m always in awe of their strength and determination! AJ and I captured around 5000 images over the 2 days and last night I finished tagging them all with the bib numbers. Boy was that work. I’m happy to say the images are up and I even had a little time today to play with the fun shots I captured. Here are some of them -

Field of Orange

I have been driving by this wonderful field for a few weeks and when I saw that the grass had turned a bright orange I knew I wanted to get out to shoot in it. I did alittle shopping around with my mom looking for a good look that will help set off the color in the field. Now I just had to wait for the rainy weather to stop (not so easy in oregon). This week it finally gave me the time to do a mini session with Kayla. We had a good time even though there were bugs and the grass was so itchy on our legs. LOL I’m happy with the images.

Well, a few weeks back I got a call letting me know that Amber (Ariel’s big sister) would be trying for Miss Rodeo Oregon!!! I was so excited for her and couldn’t wait to get together to have a shoot. Now these are just headshots but I hope that we will soon be taking a whole session of shots to celebrate her winning!!
Good Luck AMBER!
Here’s a collection of shots I captured of the beautiful Amber Overstreet :
